The area known as the Martha's Vineyard Campmeeting Association has some of the most charming cottages around. Each is embellished with gingerbread trim and painted in every color of the rainbow. In honor of Pink Saturday today, here is a trio of rosy ones.
These blushing beauties are located in Oak Bluffs, just behind the retail district. The campground is one of our favorite places to stroll after we get ice cream in the evening. Each tiny home is more whimsical than the next. I walk around gawking and come away with a case of cottage envy.
In the 19th century, this area was developed as a large Methodist summer campground that held open air revival meetings. Over time, families began leasing small lots on which to pitch their own individual tents. In the 1860s and 1870s, the family tents were replaced with permanent wooden cottages, called wooden tents. At one time there were about 500; today there are just over 300.
Now the Campground is a community of summer and year-round residents who value the intimacy created by the crowding of cottages on small tent lots. Many have been owned by the same families for generations. What a special place.Happy Pink Saturday! The gracious host of Pink Saturday is Beverly of the blog How Sweet the Sound. Please be sure to visit her at How Sweet the Sound where you'll find links to everyone getting in on the pink fun this week.

Hi Susan! I always love these little cottages - I know there are several of these type of communities around the country. I've been to one in Lakewood, Ohio. Oh, what I wouldn't give to have one of these! Happy Pink Saturday!

Oh what a wonderful post. I love the houses. Pink is great isn't it? They looks so absolutely Victorian, and I love the gingerbread trim. I like the first one best, especially the little hearts. Looks like it could be from Hansel and Gretel. Thanks for sharing. Please stop by and say hi. I would love to have you visit. Happy Pink Saturday. Country Hugs, Sherry

Thanks for the fascinating history of these cute homes! I recently read about a Swedish 'colony' of summer houses which has a similar 'feel' - it was founded in the 19th century to allow the workers of Stockholm to live outside the city in summertime and grow their own vegetables.

Cold, dark, raining all week. Summer is not going to make it to northern Michigan this year. We haven't seen many days over 70! WOWZA! So, with that in mind, Pink Saturday is especially important for me. I sit back and cruise around the blogs filling myself to the brim with my favorite color.
I would happily live in ay one of them!
♥Thanks so much for adding a bit of sunshine to my day♥

I'm with you..Cottage Envy. Here in our area, we don't have too many areas for the 'painted ladies' We had one about 2 miles away from us..It looked like Hansel and Gretel's house. even a thatched 'look' roof and carved coral and stone. They sold it a couple of years back and the new owners replaced it with a brand spankin new build!!! You are so lucky they save such treasures.

What a perfect choice for Pink Saturday!!
I love it that you're doing an "open Saturday"...is that out of your home? I know Jill (Bittersweet) has been very successful doing that. I hope it goes very well for you. I'd be there if I didn't live so far away!
I also LOVE all of the white vases you have collected. They DO look wonderful in the old bucket shelf--and scattered all over your home. I only have one and it belonged to my MIL. Infact, it's still packed away since our move to this house four years ago. Shame on ME. You have inspired me to "dig it out"! I will certainly have to post about it one day!
Have a peaceful Sunday! Dana
