Savoring the Last Bits of Summer

It's hard to believe the summer is winding down already. We just returned from dropping Hannah off at college yesterday and Jacob begins his junior year of high school next week. But with President Obama and family vacationing at our most favorite place, I've been thinking back to Martha's Vineyard again, trying to savor the last bits of summer. 

Below are two new discoveries from our trip last month. On the way home from the beach one day, we came upon a cozy bead store called Citrine on State Road in West Tisbury. Isn't it sweet?

 

Jacob thought it would be nice to make his girlfriend a necklace.

 

With no experience in jewelry making, Jacob relied on his sister to help him select the beads. Then with her instruction, he began to string them together. After a few beads, he passed them over to Hannah who was happy to help him out.

 

Here's the finished necklace. Isn't it pretty?

 

Another discovery is a place in Oak Bluffs called Back Door Donuts.

In a parking lot is the back entrance of the Martha's Vineyard Gourmet Café and Bakery. Open from 7:30 p.m. to midnight, you can simply line up at the door to purchase freshly baked, right out of the oven donuts.

 

Our nephew, Ari, came up from NYC to stay with us for a few days. He adored the chocolate frosted donuts. John preferred the massive cinnamon sweet rolls. Heavenly!

Although we have visited MV for over twenty years, we always find new places to explore. And these great memories are sure to last until we're back again next summer.

I'll have to look for Citrine the next time I'm there. The necklace is gorgeous and I like the box too.
