It’s hard to believe that we’ve been in our cozy cottage for seven years. You may remember, we spent the first four months in 2013 bringing this neglected vintage home back to life. The largest and most rewarding project was creating the kitchen of my dreams, the perfect place in which to start each day.
Taking down the walls of the original narrow kitchen and equally narrow family room enabled us to reorient the kitchen along the back of the house. I wanted it to be light and open with modern amenities, yet I still wanted it to look like it belonged in this historic home. Did I succeed? I think so.
When planning this space, I made sure to have plenty of windows, a large island, and glass-fronted cabinets for my kitchenware collection.
Now the kitchen is open to the family room and dining room. And see the doorway on the left in the photo below? That’s my sweet little studio, a space we created out of three tiny rooms.

It has truly been a pleasure renovating and living in this house for the past seven of its 95 years. I wonder what original owners Harold and May Wilson would think of the changes.
